sef1962 Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Hello have I got this ID right members of Kgl.Bayer.1.Chevaulegers-Regt 3&4 Eskadron ? The two gents on the right of the picture both have a horseshoe shaped badge on their left sleeve, one is a light colour and the other appears to be black are these different grades of blacksmith? photo taken in nurnberg march 1915 thanks Mark

A single "horseshoe" for the Fahnenschmied (Unteroffizier) and a double horseshoe for Oberfahnenschmied (Sergeant). The horseshoes were formed from NCO lace in the same color as the tunic buttons, ie, silver or gilt. During the war the lace was changed to the subdued NCO lace on the M15 Bluse. Chip
