Gebirgesjäger Badge -Period or Not?

Hello Gentlemen,

Today I've seen this Gebirgesjäger Badge in a local junk shop. Its an item I've not come across before, does anyone know if, it is of the period, and its purpose - a commemoration badge produced for regiment members. Any information would be appreciated.
