AlecH Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Hello Gentlemen, A collector friend gave me these two cartridges and pieces of magazine belt at the weekend. I believe they may be WW2 German Light Flak Bullets (think that's the correct term) measure 21cm long X rear large dia. 2,7cm and front dia. 2,0cm. On the back of the bullets is stamped 44 - 35g - eeg. Could anyone confirm what piece of German ordinance they are and what the stamps on bullet back mean. Any information appreciated. Cheers
Tony Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Hello Alec, They look very much like WWII 20mm German flak rounds to me but don't think they were necessarily confined to use by the Luftwaffe. Tony
AlecH Posted February 27, 2010 Author Posted February 27, 2010 Hello Tony, Here's a couple pictures of weapons which used these rounds.
Tony Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 (edited) Hello Tony, Here's a couple pictures of weapons which used these rounds. My father-in-law was a member of a flak gun team at the age of 14. Their gun was placed on top of a building, it must have been a real pain getting it up there and lugging the ammo up the stairs probably on a daily basis. He told me of the biggest air raid he could remember, they were all Lancasters. Luckily they didn't manage to shoot any down. Tony Edited February 28, 2010 by Tony
