Noor Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Hi all, Here is some of the British bars what arrived today! Nothing very fancy but still interesting ones. 1. WW2 era 2 row 8 place ribbon bar with the M.I.D. - Distinguished Service Order (correct?) - General Service Medal 1918-1962 - 1939-1945 Star - Africa Star - Italy Star - France & Germany Star - Defence Medal - MID Because there isn't a War Medal, I can presume it is war period ribbon bar?
Noor Posted March 1, 2010 Author Posted March 1, 2010 2. Pre WW1 4 place ribbon bar 1. Coronation 1911 2. India General Service Medal 1854-1895 3. Queens South Africa Medal 4. Kings South African Medal Because Coronation medal is in the first place, can this indicate that the owner of this bar got the Coronation award directly from the Royalty? Other ways it should be in the last place?
Noor Posted March 1, 2010 Author Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) 3. pre WW1 5 place ribbon bar Thats one is my favorite! 1. Order of St Michael & St George (isn't it?) 2. Distinguished Service Order 3. India General Service Medal 1854-1895 4. Queens South Africa Medal 5. Kings South African Medal Edited March 1, 2010 by Noor
Noor Posted March 1, 2010 Author Posted March 1, 2010 4. 5 place metal ribbon bar This type of bars I haven't never seen before. It is a metal bar and the "ribbons" are painted on it. Also pin system looks different. Under there is a paper tag with the text "Pat.No.2733". 1. Queens South Africa Medal 2. Kings South African Medal 3. 1914-18 Star 4. British War medal 1914-1918 5. 1914-18 Victory Medal

Noor Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 Hi all, Regarding bar no. 3 is there any figures somewhere, how many Order of St Michael & St George's was awarded during 1880s - 1914? Also DSOs from 1886 up to WW1 (8,981 during WW1?). I know this bar is probably not trackable but I am sure it is possible to find out aprox figure, how many similar combinations was possible pre WW1 period. Am I right?
