westfale Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 (edited) Hi! I work on identify this wearer of the 1870 ek2. As you can see he is a captain (Hauptmann) of the IR 125. According to the book about the history of this regiment, published by mittler & sohn 1895, there were not so much officers getting the ek2 in the franco-prussian war. I can't identify the time of making this picture, but I thought it must be close to the war because he is wearing the ribbon with the award. in the regimental list of officers with ek2 only two are getting the award alone - I expect wearing other awards, if he got them, but because he isn't wearing any other I think he got only the ek2. So follow this idea two were left - and here is my question: Does anyone of you could help me, who this officer was? Here the picture and a part of the list (hauptmann to oberleutnant / captain to 1st lieutenant), and thanks for help! westfale p.s.: thx Heiko Edited July 1, 2010 by westfale
Historyfan Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Hello Westfale, the EK2 cross was worn only on the day when it was awarded (a guess but I should wonder if I'm wrong). So it should be Hptm Benischek. Greetings, Winfried
HeikoGrusdat Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 the EK2 cross was worn only on the day when it was awarded Winfried , 100% NOT !!! I can show you a lot of pictures of officers wearing an iron cross in the buttonhole years and years after the war and with many other orders and awards received in the meanwhile.
