Linasl Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Hello All. I have bought (do not have it yet) what I have been told is the "Chevalier du Nichan Iftikar Ali Bey" (in French). I forgot if it is from Tunisia or another country. Following is the information the seller gave me: - the medallion in solid silver; - the center of the medallion is green enamel with some type of inscription to Ali Bey; - the perimeter of the central disk and star branches are encrusted with tiny diamonds; - the pendant ring is shaped like a "knot of money;" - the ribbon is original. Thus, my questions for this forum are as follows: 1. which country is this from? 2. from what time period (pre-, post-, or both French Colonial [i assume it is French Colonial])? 3. is it military, civil, or both (who qualified to receive it)? 4. in how many classes did it come? 5. can "Nichan Iftikar Ali Bey" be translated into English (also, what language is it in)? 6. when was it discontinued? 7. (correlated) was it only awarded during the life of Ali Bey? 8. any estimate how many of these were issued? 9. are the above information points given to me by the seller correct? Any and all information is welcome. Hopefully the photo is clear enough for you to make at least a general assessment. Thank you all in advance. Linas 1
