sabrigade Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 This item was in a Princess Mary Christmas tin I purchased a few months ago. Has anyone an idea of what it could be? Regards, Will
Strapper Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Looks like an Original 1914-1918 Red Cross issue Surf Board. Very rare, very rare indeed. 50 years before the beach boys!! :-) Dave
QSAMIKE Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 This item was in a Princess Mary Christmas tin I purchased a few months ago. Has anyone an idea of what it could be? Regards, Will Don't think it came in an original tin as it is dated 3 years after the last of the tinns were issued..... Could be the top end of a spoon that has been shaped...... A bit of trench art..... Mike
sabrigade Posted September 15, 2010 Author Posted September 15, 2010 Hi Mike, It is made from a very silky and thin type of material. Regards, Will
Strapper Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 (edited) It must be a 25th anniversary reminder. All we need to do is find out what happened on 6 July 1893, To do with the red cross possibly British Arm there of. Princess mary was married on 6 July 1893 and supporters of the Red Cross which must have been quite young then. Edited September 15, 2010 by Strapper
Strapper Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Just to add to that, I'm thinking the initials are M for mary and G for George Maybe dropped at celebration of their 25th Wedding. Still being a war on, the red cross could be there to show their Patrionage of the organization. Still thinking....
Brett Hendey Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Hi Will It looks like a silver leaf from a silverleaf tree (Leucodendron argenteum), an endangered protea from the Western Cape, that someone has decorated with a personal menorial. Regards Brett
sabrigade Posted September 18, 2010 Author Posted September 18, 2010 Thnks Brett, It is a very strange but unique item. Regards, Will
