Mervyn Mitton Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Brian - I am surprised when you say the Canadian Police used these Zaps. They do terrible head damage. Mervyn
Brian Wolfe Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Never write off the Canadians as being kind and gentle, that's just what we want you to think. Back in the 1960s they used these "Zaps" as well as a small truncheon that comprised of a flexable metal spring-like shaft with a larger handle with a weighted cylindar afixed to the tip. The whole thing was covered in heavy black leather. The OPP used to carry these in their back pockets with a leather loop hanging out for quick retrienal. These were about 7 or 8 inches in length. I suspect they stopped using them as they could be real skull crushers.RegardsBrian
speagle Posted April 27, 2015 Author Posted April 27, 2015 Mervyn,Regarding your post of the 36" nightstick. It is actually called a RIOT CONTROL BATON. It is designed to allow the officer to hold it with both hands. We were trained on a variety of baton strike techniques.Check out this e-bay link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-POLICE-MILITARY-RIOT-BATON-36-Correctional-BILLY-CLUB-NIGHTSTICK-Stick/111636665273?_trksid=p2054897.c100204.m3164&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140407115239%26meid%3D08b9a895f89940088cdc659307b90565%26pid%3D100204%26rk%3D8%26rkt%3D30%26sd%3D111655201891BTW-what happened to the numbers for each entry?
