    Hi,

I am interested in the history of the participation of Panzer-Regiment.22 (21. Panzer-Division) at the Battle of Normandy. Please help me in finding information about the commanders of this unit.

    Who were the company commanders of 2./Pz.-Rgt. 22 and 3./Pz.-Rgt. 22 in June-July 1944?

    I./Pz.-Rgt. 22

    Kdr.: Major Wilhelm von Gottberg

    1. Kp.: Hauptmann Schmidt

    2. Kp.: ???

    3. Kp.: ???

    4. Kp.: Oberleutnant Hoffmann

    Can anyone please help?

    Many thanks in advance.

There was no PzRgt.22 at Normandy

    Panzer-Regimnet 22 was created from Panzer-Abteilung 22 in 1945. Panzer-Abteilung 22 was build in September 1944.

During the battle in Normandy Panzer-Regiment 100 was under the command of the 21.Panzer-Division

In early June 1944 the PzRgt.100 was stationed around Aubigny. The I. Abteilung, commanded by Major Wilhelm von Gottberg, was in Jort. The II. Abteilung commanded by Major Martin Vierzig was in Fresné-la-Mère. The RzRgt.100 took heavy losses in the summer of 1944 at Normandie and was finally destroyed at Falaise und Caen.

    The PzRgt.100 of the 21.Panzer-Division was not rebuild. The 21.Panzer-Division received a new Panzer-Regiment in 1945. It was Panzer-Regiment 22 created from Panzer-Abteilung 22.

Panzer-Regiment 100 is often misnamed Panzer-Regiment 22 since Panzer-Regiment 22 replaced the destroyed PzRgt.100 and some of the officers and men that served in PzRgt100 were in 1945 serving in the newly created PzRt.22.

Igor, I think you are looking for the officers of I./ Panzer-Regiment 100
