Söderbaum Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Hi Hptm dR x Heyer from IR 165 served nearly the entire War within the Marine Air Force. He was probably born in Hamburg or nearby area. He was the commander of two Marine Air units. On 30 Oct 18 he left the Marine Air Force and was posted to to II Mar Inf Reg. It would be strange if he not was awarded the Hamb HK..! Anyway, I wonder if anyone knew his date and place of birth, first name or promotion to Hptm dR (before Jun18). ..? If you have queston about his War service I might be able to help. Gunnar
Söderbaum Posted June 25, 2011 Author Posted June 25, 2011 Sorry for mis-spelling Kreuz... Heyer is mentioned in Ehrenrangliste for Marine officers, however the list that I have extract from do not give date of birth, first names etc for Army officers.. Anyway, I wonder of anyone have access to MWB for 1918..? He was promoted Oblt dR on 22.03.15 and probably his date for promotion to Hptm dR is 22.03.18..!? I assume that it does not exist a good history for IR 165. Gunnar
Söderbaum Posted June 9, 2012 Author Posted June 9, 2012 Hi folks I am still hunting this German officer and flyer to find basic info. Recently when visiting the archive in Freiburg, they do have an file for an Württemberger Hptm dR Karl Heyer but he was no flyer.. Anyone who have hints to come further..? Gunnar
Paul C Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 I can not find any information on him. What is odd is that you say he went from IR 165 into the Navy (Marine). Did you access Marine service records at Frieburg?
Söderbaum Posted June 9, 2012 Author Posted June 9, 2012 Hi Paul Actually nearly all Personal Akten from the Marine, I think mentioned it in an earlier thread, like over 200.000 were sent back from Freiburg to WaSt in Berlin in mid 1990s before anyone had the chance to check them. The origin of this material was from the Potsdammer archive. Today they have some Marine files in Freiburg, but it only seems to be a couple of hundred (P8). But I have his aviation career within Marine Air Force rather complete as all unit records etc are available in Freiburg. It was not unusual that Army flyers went over to the Marine Air Force. It also existed an exchange agreement between the Army and Marine regarding flyers at least from early 1916. Gunnar
