clash1978 Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Hello, My name is Neil and I'm new to the forum. I'm intrested in the history of the pre-world war 2 era Hong Kong police force. My main query regards the rank insignia of the inspectorate ranks of this era. Most of the refernce photos out there appear to show inspectors (in winter uniforms) wearing high-collar patrol jacket-style tunics without rank insignia on the eppulettes. They do seem to wear cuff braids similar to Austrian braids. Anyway, my qestion is was it common for colonial police forces to use braids as rank insignia in this way and can anyone explain the different patterns for sub-inspectors, inspectors and chief-inspectors? Thanks in advance, Neil.
Mervyn Mitton Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Hello - Neil. welcome to GMIC. Please go back to Page 4 on this sub-Forum - 4th.entry - Records for the Hong Kong Police before 1941. The collectors who added to this thread will possibly be able to help you - certainly worth an IM.. Please let me know how you get on - I do have another contact who may be able to help. Incidentally, have you contacted the HK Force Museum - they are usually very helpful. Mervyn
