Freiwillige Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Here's an interesting portrait of a WW1 Romanian veteran decorated with two foreign awards - Russian and British.
Freiwillige Posted May 19, 2011 Author Posted May 19, 2011 Awards: 1. Russian Empire. Cross of St.George. 2. Romania. Medalia “Avântul Ţării” 3. Romania. Crucea Comemorativă a Războiului 1916-1918 4. Unknown British medal - George V era 5. Romania. Medalia “Virtutea Militară” Could you please help with the identification of the British medal? Any ideas where that veteran could have served judging from the Russian and British awards?
Kev in Deva Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 A great picture Its a British George V Distinguished Conduct Medal (in total 25,000 made), these medals plus the Military Medal, amongst others, were sent to Romania to be dispensed to Romanian military personnel who were deemed worthy to receive them, they were issued unnamed. Kevin in Deva. PS. I have a George V MM in my collection which I located here in Romania.

Number 3 could as easily be a 1916-1919 version for service in the re-occupation of Romanian Territories in Bas-arabia, Transylvania and the Occupation of Budapest, immediate post WW1.
