Swhipple Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Hello Everyone, I'm researching a member of my family and I'm hoping the knowledgable members of this site can help me. I have the attached photo of my great grandfather, Arther Henry Beardow, sitting on his horse. From what I understand he was a member of the 4th Hussars and reached the rank of Sgt or maybe even Regimental Sgt.? The reason I'm currently researching this is that I'm an amatuer artist and I want to create a painting based on this photograph. I guess the questions I'd like answered are: What is the rank of the person in the picture? Is the uniform consistant with the 4th Hussars? And finally the big question, is there anywhere I can find information on the coloration of the shown uniform? I've done some research all ready, and all of the color pictures I can find show the front of the coat with gold/yellow decoration but in this B&W photo the braiding looks darker like it might be red or blue? Thank you. Shawn Whipple
Mervyn Mitton Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Shawn - welcome to GMIC. I think your question is going to need one of our members who specialises in uniforms - hopefully, they will have a colour photo to help you. Please let me know how you get-on. Mervyn
QSAMIKE Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Hello Shawn...... I guess the questions I'd like answered are: What is the rank of the person in the picture? Is the uniform consistant with the 4th Hussars? 1. With no rank badges on his sleeve I would say that the rank is TROOPER...... 2. The uniform looks like his Patrol Blue's...... Mike
Swhipple Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 Thank you Mike. I'll try researching the patrol blues.
