Yankee
Can anybody say what rank one would have been to be given the gold medal. Thanks Yankee
Beau Newman
Nimmergut notes that 251 of the gold grade were awarded between 1861 and 1876 including 7 or 8 to "NCOs and Soldiers" for 1866 and 44 for 1870/71. I think, however, that this was primarily a civilian award for service to the crown or state.

saschaw
If awarded to military in peace times, probably for highest NCOs only. The war awards might have been to lower NCOs or even EMs, but for remarkable acts of bravery. The last one I saw was offered by the famous club, so they are doing them now, too. :speechless: Edited February 27, 2012 by saschaw

Can you tell me if there should be any makers mark on the medal. There are some scratches and dings perhaps a very soft, high gold content.
