Noor Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Hi guys, I understand that there may be a source to check an unit based on Censor stamp on the card/envelope. If any of you guys have some material regards of this, maybe you can help me to ID two envelopes with the censor stamps. One is 16th (Irish) Division 1917 Christmas card and on the envelope there is a black ink stamp "(King's Crown) PASSED BY CENSOR No. 1966" and "FIELD POST OFFICE D7". Second one is just a envelope with the red ink stamp "(King's Crown in the centre) PASSED BY CENSOR No. 2230" and "FIELD POST JA 18, (envelope sent to Ol. Records, No.XI District, Roy Dub Fus, Island Bridge Barrack, Dublin, Ireland). Any help or advise would be greatly appriciated, Timo
Mervyn Mitton Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Hi. Sorry no one answered your query - it just needs someone with a list of where the Field Post Offices were situated. The question is - who would have such a list ? Perhapes the Imperial War Museum - worth a try. Mervyn
Noor Posted October 18, 2012 Author Posted October 18, 2012 I actually received an answer over Great War Forum - these number ranges are not researched yet. Thank you for your replay anyway. Timo
