jmahvh Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 New to this forum, I have joined in the hope that someone may be able to answer, or, perhaps, to give hints where to find more information about: Major-General (later General) Peter Carle His personal details are still unknown to me. All I have been able to find is that he was in British service during the mid-18th Century and an engineer general in Portugal at some time. He is mostly mentioned as the father of Anne (died 1761), wife of the better known Admiral the Hon. George Clinton (1686-1761) I am intrigued by this officer, whom apparently managed to reach a high rank in the engineers, but is now a forgotten figure in (military) history. If there is anything known about his life and career, I would be very grateful to know about it.
arb Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Take a look at this short paragraph from Google Books- it contains the basic information you are looking for. http://books.google.de/books?id=UNdSAAAAcAAJ&pg=PA235&dq=%22Peter+Carle+%22&hl=de&sa=X&ei=Wes-Uau-JcjO0QHGqYG4BA&ved=0CFwQ6AEwCDgK#v=onepage&q=%22Peter%20Carle%20%22&f=false Andy
jmahvh Posted March 12, 2013 Author Posted March 12, 2013 I'm amazed that I did not find this after the many searches on google... And it's more than I had hoped for. But thanks a million, Andy, this also gives me some leads to find more about him.

arb Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Glad to have helped. I try to use Google books rather than just a straight search, as it tends to come up with more useable results. Enjoy your search! Andy
