    Hello,

today I will present you my newest item. It´s Marine-Stabszahlmeister Emil Wachsmann. He entered the navy on 30.april 1863.

He had a nice medal bar:

    RAO4

    KO4

1870/71 steel medal on the non-combatants ribbon

1864 (not often to see on naval bars!) war medal for fighters or non-fighters (?)

    China-medal for fighters or non-fighters (?)

    Centenary medal

    PBd´A3

Not often seen a german medal bar with a portuguese decoration.

I hope you like it, also.

    Best wishes

    Karsten

    Born Danzig 24 November 1842. Retired 25 March 1904 (!)

    Marine Zahlmeister-Aspirant (überzähliger) 17.02.70/etatsmäßiger 09.06.71

    M ZM ernannt 18.02.73/permanent 25.03.74

    M OZM 26.04.81

Marine Stabszahlmeister 17 June 1890 and there he is 1902-04

    RAO4 18.01.94 with 2. Werft-Division

KO4 18.01.88 as Geschwader-ZM (!!!) aboard Kreuzerfregatte SMS "Stein", this replaced as retirement present by

    KO3 12.07.04

    Sources:

haven't looked at the Marine Ranglisten, just 1908/09 Ordens-Almanach and the useful (but no index!) 1906 "Rangliste der Marine-Zahlmeister vom Jahre 1848 ab," and Ordenslisten.

The Portuguese order is an oddity... perhaps when the German navy was so tiny before 1900, even a "lowly" Paymaster got treated like a "real officer" making state visits in foreign ports.

That's a wonderful portrait to a tiny officer corps of the German navy.

    Hello

and thanks a lot for your infos and sources. According to MVB (Marine-Verordnungsblätter) the portuguese order was awarded in 1899 ( 18th september 1899 )

Is it possible to find out if he received the fighter or non-fighter version of both commemorative medals?

In 1902 he was "leit. Zahlm. d. Zahlm. Sekt" of the 1st Werftdivision in Kiel. So I would prefer a china-steel-medal.

    Thanks a lot

    Best wishes

Stahl... I think. In 1899 he was aaboard SMS "Kurfürst Friedrich Wilhelm" which WAS in China... but the only list I have of officers (100 or 1901?) does NOT have him there. Could be bronze-no Songen or Steel.

    I have no Marine Ranglisten 1900, 1901, 1902.
