my8trax Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I wondered if they still issue night duty helmets, and how do you tell whether a bobby helmet with black fittings is a newer night duty helmet, or one of the earlier period helmets, when the fittings were all black...other than the obvious look of age. Thanks, Oliver
Craig Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Oliver, They don't issue night duty helmets anymore. I think you would have to go back to the late 60's early 70's though I'm sure one of our members will know the exact dates and make up of the helmets Craig
Mervyn Mitton Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 The only difference for the Metropolitan Police was a darkened Helmet Plate. This avoided reflections - the Rose on the crown of the helmet was already darkened. For Provincial Forces it often meant changing the top decoration and sometimes, the band around the helmet could be chromed and have to be darkened. Interesting addition to Brian's excellent post on Police Helmets ? Mervyn
