Here is an old cap, it has what appears to be a Mecklenburg-Schwerin cockade.....

Named inside "Wilhelm Behrens" any ideas? cheers, Paul

    Paul,

It could be some kind of hybrid Bavarian Einheitsmütze, but I would guess it is some postwar veteran's organization or something like that.

Except for the normal visor, it looks like the slovenly Reichsheer fatigue uniform squashers:

Is the piping actually ORANGE and not red?

Behrens is certainly a Mecklenburg-Schwerin family name-- 90 of them on the WW1 MMV Rolls--and not a blessed one with a first name. There were only 5 over in -Strelitz--all first names no Wilhelm.

Don't know about orange piping... maybe early scraps and left overs Gendarmerie early 1920s?

I think Behrends is a pretty common north German name. Plenty of them in Hannover and Ostfriesland. That paper tag does not look like a wartime label. Most imperial era private purchase caps that had manufacturer marks had them imprinted on the lining or embossed into the sweatband.
