dante Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Here is an old cap, it has what appears to be a Mecklenburg-Schwerin cockade..... Named inside "Wilhelm Behrens" any ideas? cheers, Paul
Chip Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Paul, It could be some kind of hybrid Bavarian Einheitsmütze, but I would guess it is some postwar veteran's organization or something like that. Chip

Guest Rick Research Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) Except for the normal visor, it looks like the slovenly Reichsheer fatigue uniform squashers: Is the piping actually ORANGE and not red? Behrens is certainly a Mecklenburg-Schwerin family name-- 90 of them on the WW1 MMV Rolls--and not a blessed one with a first name. There were only 5 over in -Strelitz--all first names no Wilhelm. Don't know about orange piping... maybe early scraps and left overs Gendarmerie early 1920s? Edited August 21, 2013 by Rick Research
Chip Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I think Behrends is a pretty common north German name. Plenty of them in Hannover and Ostfriesland. That paper tag does not look like a wartime label. Most imperial era private purchase caps that had manufacturer marks had them imprinted on the lining or embossed into the sweatband. Chip
dante Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 Great call Rick.....its orange, so what do we think 1920's Mecklenburg Gendarmerie
