daveh Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Hi, Can anyone identify this Falchion please? The markings on the cross guard are 12. A. F.B.2 It's 24 1/4" from tip to tip blade is 18 5/8" Best regards
Guest Rick Research Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 This would probably be better in the German section, if a Moderational Being could please move it.
Swordguy Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Check the reverse side of the blade for a makers mark. Check the top of the blade for any kind of proof or date mark. The regimental marks are those you mentioned on the hilt. I believe they stand for: Bespannungs-Abteilung der Fuss-Artillerie-Brigade. ie: Teamster Detachment of a Foot Artillery Brigade. The sword was probably a WWI re-issue, where the Army would not want to waste the issue of a new weapon to a third line unit. There is another posibility with the same mark, but it would have been a front line unit with first class weapons. Hope this helps.
daveh Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 thanks for the info. There are no other markings on it unfortunately. Maybe over cleaned by someone?
