Noor Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Hi all, I just wanted to share one of my last pick ups - a nice small silver made challenge shield (football competition) that was awarded to the H Company, 2nd Battalion of Hampshire Regiment at 1892. Nice little item that has still original ribbon, clasp with the year on it and also working swivel suspender. I find these little medallions pretty interesting because they are usually well made, surely rarer then official awards and also they represent well regimental life. Also some moments can help to research some individuals, if they are named to one soldier (was at this time there and did that ). Regards, Noor
Mervyn Mitton Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 A nice example - and excellent condition. Silver and gold were comparitevely cheap in those days and there are still many examples of sports medallions on the market. Unfortunately, they are often worth more as scrap and it is a sad fact that you do not see as many as a few years ago. Best wishes Mervyn
