dante Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Here is an interesting group to a British resident of Russian origin who was a Private soldier (acting Regimental Sergeant Major) serving in the 10th (Intelligence) Battalion Royal Fusiliers in France........more to follow........
Tony Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Researching a name like Baker must be a nightmare unless you have an idea of where he lived or surviving army records.A great group and I wonder if he knew my great grandfather, a pre war territorial Ranger. Good luck with your research.Tony
dante Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 Thanks Tony, his MSM has him from Leeds...There is an Abram Baker, born c1893 in Leeds, son of Russian parents, Hyman and Fanny Baker (possibly formerly Wolfberg). On the 1911 census, he is a clerk in a jewellers. I think he married Jennie Karbritz in Mile End in 1913. He appears on a number of passenger lists in the 1920s, as a salesman, heading to New York, seemingly en route to China and Japan. He died in 1955.
