I happen to remember when these were passed out after sizing. However I could not have needed a large one yet.

The next gas mask tried on was in 1960 in US Army trial with use of teargas during basic training.

Bernhard,

You have that unique presence, you were there and you remember, I find that in itself facinating, I would enjoy a beer or two in your presence just to listen to what you have experienced.  It is a shame 'the pond' is in the way.  I remember our S6 and then S10  mask but they have a new fandangled mask now.  I am also imune-ish  to CS, it never bothered me that much compaired to others. Handy if I ever find myself in a riot anywhere!
