Bear Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 A pastel portrait of Grace Elliot(1754-1823) by John Russell. I'm not sure if this is in fact Grace or a copy of another siiter Mrs. best/ Miss Wood. I've never had a pastel painting so it's something different. She would be 32 years old in this portrait. Grace had a very interesting life. wiki page for some info and another portrait - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Elliott google books - Her Journal During the Reign of Terror https://books.google.com/books?id=5UxEAAAAIAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=journal+grace+dalrymple&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjt0eSNpKLUAhXr6YMKHeFVCawQ6AEIIjAA#v=onepage&q=journal grace dalrymple&f=true google books - John Russell List of 1785/86 portraits page 112 https://books.google.com/books?id=5UxEAAAAIAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=journal+grace+dalrymple&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjt0eSNpKLUAhXr6YMKHeFVCawQ6AEIIjAA#v=onepage&q=journal grace dalrymple&f=true
Brett Hendey Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 Thank you for a most interesting post. It introduced me to a person I had not come across before. This is one of the reasons I so appreciate the GMIC. Regards Brett
peter monahan Posted June 5, 2017 Posted June 5, 2017 Fascinating and I second Brett's comments. It's also nice to see one of these tales with a 'happy ending': "She died a wealthy woman".
