mountain trooper or not?

Is anybody able to tell me from which unit this soldier was and when the photo was taken (my guess 1915?)? I noticed edelweiss on his cap, but he doesnt have it on the collar so I'm not sure if he is gebirgsjäger or not...Thanks

Excellent picture - really good features....

I can only state that the cockade is Emperor FJi who died November 1916. 

Don't quote me - but I would guess it is an earlier pic than that as there were 1916 'campaign' badges worn which I can't see here.

i too would expect edelweiss collar  badge though...

i hope other more learned Gents can help.
