sftrooper86 Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 (edited) Greetings Gentlemen, Does anyone know when the USMC started stenciling the EGA on their helmet covers? Was this done in WW2 or later. Attached is a photo of my Father's issued USMC helmet cover. He served 1957-60. Thank you for any info & Semper Fi! Vince Edited February 8, 2019 by sftrooper86 ADD PIC
muckaroon1960 Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 (edited) Hi Vince, according to Jim Moran's book on USMC uniforms and equipment the EGA on the helmet cover was unauthorised during WW2. However this didn't stop some Marines painting a EGA on their helmet covers. Hope this helps. Edited February 11, 2019 by muckaroon1960 change name
sftrooper86 Posted February 12, 2019 Author Posted February 12, 2019 (edited) Hello & thank you! I just purchased that book and found that same reference last night! I have seen some photos with it applied during the war but very few. Thanks again! Edited February 12, 2019 by sftrooper86
muckaroon1960 Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Hi Vince, I had my copy signed by Jim Moran himself. This was at the Malvern Military Convention held twice a year at Great Malvern, Worcestershire, England. A nice guy who obviously knows his USMC gear.
