Guest JohnG Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 I understand that my late Father brought this German Cross back from the war. I know nothing about it, except that it has been in a box for many years, along with a newspaper clipping depicting one Admiral Wagner being questioned by a British soldier. The Admiral is shown wearing a similar decoration. I know that my Father was in Germany during this period, but have no idea if this one is connected with Admiral Wagner. From examining the piece, and from reading this and other web sites, I believe it to be a genuine Godet DKIG. It has the number 21 on the reverse of the pin, and weighs about 68 grams. The surface of the Swastika is unfortunately damaged, but it is in good condition otherwise.I would be grateful for informed comments on the likely authenticity of this award, and for advice as to how to proceed with offering it for sale. DavidM Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 (edited) HelloWelcome to the forum. The cross certainly looks promising. To be certain about it, could you post some closer in scans or photos of the front and rear of the cross, both with the pin up, (as in your current shot), and closed. Please ensure the pictures are head on and not at an angle. A close up of the maker mark would help as well. Edited May 2, 2006 by DavidM

Dave B Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 The DKiG that Admiral Wagner is wearing in the photo looks like it could be a cloth version?Dave
DavidM Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Hello JohnThanks for posting the other pictures. From what I can see in the photos this looks like an original Godet to me. As for selling it, why not place it in 'The Sale Room' in the 'Sales & Wanted Items' forum on this site.
Guest JohnG Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Many thanks for your comments and advice gentlemen. With a view to offering the piece for sale; as I am neither a collector or dealer, where can I find sensible price comparisons to arrive at a fair asking price?
