Legion of frontiersman LSE medal

Hi all,

 

I recently found my grandads medals from WW2. Couple in here I've not seen before but I've come across his 'legion of frontiersman ' long service and efficency medal.

 

 

 

I cant seem to find much online about this, if anyone has any info on what this legion was or how someone become a member I'd be very grateful to find out.
