    Well myself and Jody commented in a thread at WA. The gilding is the same as that used on latter KM badges. I feel confident these did exist and mine is one of them ... :food-smiley-004:

    Do you think they were massed produced?I have seen pictures

    of the odd odd ball.I got a black with the paint removed.The

    old done in the field story because there were no silvers around

    Well considering the quality of all items near the end of the war and the need to use old badges and reduce material used in their construction, it makes sense that old Blacks were stripped of the black color and repainted.

    I have not found any maker that has been known to do this.

    I am sure it was done in the field.I will see if I can post my black with the

    paint removed
