Crimea medal clasp Sebastopol, named to 6013 Private John Bladen (or Bladon), originally from Ashbourne, Derby enlisted into the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards aged 24 in 1850. 3rd Battalion formed part of Lord Raglan's Army, which had previously stormed the heights above the River Alma and besieged the Russian fortress of Sebastopol. Entitled to the Turkish war medal In 1861 John Bladen joined the Manchester police and is noted in several newspaper articles and court circulars for arrests. In 1871, we find him promoted to Police Sergeant and his death is noted in 1874 aged 45, he is buried in Manchester general cemetery. I am sure there is a story here but to date it has alluded me. 1
