Electronic Stethoscope, anyone know about this?

Hi, I trade and restore old hand tools, every now and then something turns up in a lot of tools that leaves me scratching my head. It’s a wooden green box with earphones, cable reel, some magnetic bits and other parts that I do not understand. If anyone can enlighten me I’d be grateful.
