Unknown button lot, any ideas?

Good Afternoon,

 

Here is a small lot of buttons, and a badge. These were found by another person whilst metal detecting in the UK.

There are some which i recognise, however, there are a couple which absolutely have me stumped!

1. musicians ?cap badge? i can't think of a date for this one

2. Royal air force, 1940s?

3. royal navy?

4. ? anchor, but no crown....akin to number 6, but bulbous, not flat.

5. same as 3, but smaller, and much more detail

6. ?royal navy? large, single piece construction. a date for this one would be much appreciated!😁

7. ? one piece, with mould line running horizontally across 

8. ? could be an anchor...i can't tell!

9. ? two piece construction

10. ? three , with a ?dotted? rim, one piece construction

11. ? two piece construction

12. ? looks to be crushed, but was of two piece construction

 

Maybe you will have better luck than I had! XD

hi Philip,

i’m going with…

1. First half 20century,  a musician arm trade badge or a music corps badge, maybe it’s missing a kings crown.

 

 

 

2. I think the back and kings crown dates it to 1930’s (‘38?) - 1952

 

3,4,5 & 6 are I think all 2 piece Victorian Royal Navy

 

7, 8 & 10 look like the oldest,

8 I agree could be an anchor and would then likely be the oldest Royal Navy button as it’s one piece.

 
10. I’d guess is an enlisted man’s button for the 3rd regiment of foot 

 

7, 9 & 11 if military, all remind me off yeomanry buttons but 7 could be a stables livery button and 11 could be constabulary, post office, coal boards, all sorts of orgs used similar style buttons. 9 with similar options,  but a crown is more exclusively used.  Personally I like to think they are yeomanry or militia if they were dug up in the same place, one with a military connection.

12. no idea, but again where it was found is a clue.

I believe you are right on most, the yeomanry buttons are anyone's guess. the dating buttons diagram is great, thanks for that! 

The 89th button you posted is French, if my memory serves me right, no?

Number 6, is that the possible Napoleonic rank button?

had a look and the jury is out 😊

 

I thought the 89 button was English

but then this is described as French 👇

 

I’d still be inclined to go with English myself.., 👍
