John_Wheeler Posted August 9 Posted August 9 (edited) Medals, flags, swords, armbands, and patches are more my area; I'm not all that great with uniforms. A friend has this and wants to sell it to me but I have serious doubts as to its authenticity. I believe the brass insignia, buttons, and rank insignia are genuine but am almost sure the uniform is fake. It has no markings in it and looks poorly constructed. The shorts I am positive are fake due to the modern stitching. I would appreciate anyone willing to offer input. Thank you. Edited August 9 by John_Wheeler Tried to fix text. 1

Hi John, I agree with you, it looks ‘wrong’ in the first place and to me it isn’t correct either. The General service buttons were not used by officers, they used regimental buttons still. Also a full colonel would in theory have moved from regimental buttons to ‘staff officer’ buttons like 👇 Even though wartime, and even with the correct buttons I’d still be surprised to see an officer wearing these especially a colonel who would have had the means to find a local tailor if not one ‘back home’. Every officer item I have , without checking, is tailor made. I’m in agreement about the machine stitching for the same reason. Without comparing it, I’d still be tempted to say it is a more modern item. Maybe it is a later real uniform but certainly not ‘genuinely’ decked out. cheers tony 🍻
