gjw Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Hope it's OK to post this. Anyway, this fellow on the KuK Militaria Collectors Group on FB, Ralph Burton, had put up for sale a Carinthia Cross for Merit. The price was fair, so I brought it. Well after a back and forth over which PayPal address to send the payment, payment was sent and received. Then, all of a sudden, the postage went up and after I requested a Tracking Number, he said I had to contact the sending outfit. The mailing center informed me I had to pay 150 Pounds to get it shipped. Contacted the seller and basically he said he did his part. Asked for a refund and he wouldn't give one saying he was broke. PayPal can't help as payment was sent F&F. Well you live and learn. Just thought I would let you all know so you won't get burned. Best to all Greg 4
TracA Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Greg, I'm sorry that you got burned. Thank you for the warning. We all have to stick together against these scammers. All the best, Tracy 2
Farkas Posted August 20 Posted August 20 (edited) Sorry to hear this Greg, such a downer. Where is the thing currently claimed to be? If it’s stuck in the UK you can try and get it shipped to me mate… cheers tony 🤷♂️ PS I’d forward it to you obviously Edited August 20 by Farkas Ps
gjw Posted August 20 Author Posted August 20 Hey Tony, here's what I got from the "shipping Company" Make of it what you will??? Dear Gregory Westberg, We are pleased to inform you that we have received your parcel and it is now boxed and ready to be shipped to your address. In order to proceed with the shipping process, we kindly ask you to pay a fee of £150 which covers insurance/border pass permit and the generation of your tracking ID for your parcel. Once this fee is cleared, you will receive a tracking ID, which will allow you to monitor the progress of your parcel until it reaches your doorstep. We await your swift response to facilitate shipping. Please let us know if you have any questions or need further assistance. Kind regards, HNL Shipping Sent from my Galaxy -------- Original 1
TracA Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Holy Toledo (as we sometimes say here in the states), 150 pounds sterling! I am sorry, but that really sounds like extortion to me, plain and simple. Tracy 2
Farkas Posted August 23 Posted August 23 Had a little look around, seems there is a known style of scam matching this, in many cases people can get a refund on the purchase but actually the main aim is to try and get people to pay shipping, so even if you pay HNL it isn’t coming. Ralph Burton, if he exists, almost certainly hasn’t given anything to anyone, surely he could request it’s return if he really had. Got anything to contact them? An address or telephone number for him or this HNL? I’m in the UK, as the fee is in ££’s, I guess they are too… I’d love to provide some long term harassment on your behalf. You can DM me Greg. And thanks for the heads up, I’ve trusted people in a similar manner many times, life’s better when you are positive/optimistic/trusting, but your situation is an important cautionary tale. cheers tony 🍻 1
