bilylev Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I have just acquired this beauty. It is made by Spink, so I beleive it is from a royal period. 1
Megan Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Nice... the Order of Beneficence - Τάγμα της Ευποιΐας - instituted 7 May 1948 and awarded to women for charitable works and merit in the arts and letters. This star dates from the Royal period - you can tell this by the blue background, the Republic version has a yellow background to the picture of the Virgin Mary. The same colour change occured with the badge, also the Royal period one had a crown on top. Here are all 5 classes of the Royal version: And to compare, the Royal and Republic Grand Cross badges: They ought to be the same size, sorry - working off a laptop and grabbing images off of my site! 2
bilylev Posted September 9 Author Posted September 9 Thank you Megan. I didn't notice the different colors of the central medallions until now. I am more clever now 🙂. From your picture I see that this order has different size of stars. My star has size 79 mm. Is it grand cross or grand commander? I have in my collection 3rd, 4th and 5th class yet. Most probably republican versions, I dont remmeber exactly but when I am at home again I will make pictures. Jan 1
bilylev Posted October 1 Author Posted October 1 My tiny collection of Greek medals. Can somebody tell me what is my star? Grand Cross or Grand Officer? Thanks Jan
Megan Posted October 2 Posted October 2 The only difference is size, but to muddy things, different manufacturers made them with minor variations in size! The Grand Cross star is around 80mm in diameter. The Grand Commander star is around 65mm.
