Droocoo Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Nice mint EKII on your first post. Is the EKI a zinc core?
ChrisKelly Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 Brass or more likely tombak. My understanding is these Iron Crosses were struck primarily for kriegsmarine personnel. Iron can corrode quickly in the salt/saline environment that is the Atlantic, so these were more resistant to rust and degradation.
Droocoo Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Chris - I have heard opposing views on this Kriegsmarine explanation.
ChrisKelly Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 Would love to read about it. All I really know is that these aren't "standard/presentation/official" issue. They're authentic to be sure, but that's all I know. Maybe myth and legend. Any further information is more than welcome.
