Wat05 Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 I am currently viewing this auction. Is everything in order here? Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.
JohanH Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 The cross looks fine! I seriously doubt that anyone would fake these crosses since they are common and usually quite cheap. But if it was the version with swords I would be careful since those are very rare. 1
Wat05 Posted December 27, 2024 Author Posted December 27, 2024 It was delivered today and is much larger than I expected! Also something interesting I noticed, is that together the lion and red enamelled circle is seemingly separate from the medal, and is merely kept in place by the small silver circle with the four red x’s. It is a very cool construction!
FRE_A_K Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Pretty similar details to the Polish Polonia Restituta. Modern crosses are quite ugly compared to these older ones made by Tillander. I read somewhere that some foreigners preferred this over the White Rose of Finland, so those unfamiliar with the subject may have mistaken the cross on a red ribbon for the French Legion of Honor. 😄 1
Wat05 Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 That is quite a shame, that medals have been becoming lower in quality. There is such a charm for those that were made through the 19-20th centuries, that medals today don’t have. That is quite a sneaky move with the ribbons though!
