This one was awarded to Avakov Ivan Danilovich. Rifleman of the 400th rifle regiment.
Such an interesting awarding to a brave fighter!

“When repelling 8 fierce enemy attacks on the bridgehead west of the Oder River, comrade Avakov inspired the rest of the fighters with his bold actions. He met the attackers with grenades and well-aimed bullets. By the end of the battle 11 people were killed.”

He most likely got his order in around 1958... so he had to wait a few years for it...

89 Armenian rifle "Taman" Red Banner Kutuzov and Red Star orders division.

    Very interesting map.

I’m not really familiar with army terms and so on. Does anyone know what the “1/“ mean in the map ?

    for example 1/400 СП

    1/400 = 1st battalion of 400 rifle regiment

the same would go for company-regiment level markings: 5/273 = 5th company of 273 rifle regiment.

the action mentioned in the citation took place on 16 February 1945 after 89 RD (Rifle Division) moved across Oder river and replaced 4 RD and 77 RD on the bridgehead.

The 8 German attacks during that day were supported by 5 SPGs and 2 tanks and occurred in the sector between the hill 63.2 and the brick factory.

The German attacks had no success, even though the Soviet defence lacked field artillery support due to absence of ammunition on the bridgehead.

Soviet losses: WIA 74, KIA 17.

German losses: up to 100 troops, 1 SPGs knocked out.

The “battle journal” has this written down for the 16.02.45

”… the enemy reatreated to the starting position leaving more than 300 soldiers and officers on the battlefield”

    ”1 tank knocked out”

”the losses of our division for the 16.02.45 are

    KIA - 22

    WIA - 90…”

This is combat diary on the division level.

My description above is for 400 rifle regiment alone.

Some excellent research, and also interesting order! I imagine it wasn’t uncommon to see late awards like this one. Also great to see another person part of the 400th Rifle Regiment, as I have a documented Battle Merit awarded to an Armenian there. I might post it sometime.
