CISKEI - what is this ??

Hiya,

 

I've seen this medal on 2 occasions and still don't know what it really is - official or a private issue ??

 

 

 

It's now on offer on Bobshop for R 1475 and described as = original Ciskei TBVC ex RSA Bantustan dd "1981" freedom or establishment (neck worn) medal/medallion  (Civilian order/ award?) someone has suggested that this might have been the celebratory award handed to traditional leaders and chiefs etc. at the time of Ciskei Independence 05 Dec 1981 (?).

 

Does anyone know more (Archie/Megan ??) - please let me know.

I think that it is either a civilian medal or an unofficial one. But I do not have any hard evidence to support this assertion!

 

There's a quite different medal that was awarded to all serving members of the Ciskei Defence Force on 4 December 1981 to commemorate the independence of the Republic of Ciskei. (Sorry, images on t'other computer!).
