The creation of the submarine badge in the Kingdom of SHS was ordered after acquiring two French-type submarines. Two badge variants were made—one for the older English-type submarines and one for the French-type. Both badges were crafted in gilded bronze with similar designs but differing submarine silhouettes and relief details. The first type features the boats "Hrabri" or "Nebojša," while the second type boats "Smeli" or "Avenger." Both badges have a laurel wreath, crown, and knot, with differing sizes and a registration number on the back.

On November 5, 1937, a unified submarine badge was introduced for all crews in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The badge, made from 900/1000 silver and weighing 30 g, featured a wreath, submarine silhouette, anchor, and royal crown. Crew members could wear it temporarily or permanently, and those with significant submarine service could wear it permanently. The badge was worn on uniforms in specific locations and not during submarine service or while on the mother ships.

Here a 1st type badge awarded to all crew members of submarines "Smeli" and "Osvetnik". These few badges were produced by "Greisbach and Knaus" and listed in their 1930 catalog. The is marked by the manufacturer on the reverse and engraved with a Roman numeral "VIII", another badge is known with the numeral "XII".
