    South African Militaria

    Hello all

I'm a new member here and i was wondering if anyone else has any South African Militaria they wish to share. I also need help identifying a lot of my collection wich I picked up at fairs and flea markets from people who had no information on the pieces.

I would like to know where they come from, how prolific they are, and approximate value (if any).

More pic's will follow when I have finished photographing them.

    Thanks in advance.

    Danke wel Matthijs

Any pictures of any SA medals will be appreciated.

I am trying to build up a database for my own use and also for possibly posting on the net.

Im continously frustrated by the lack of no data or poor quality pics on the net.

    Thanks for your reply Darrel.

    Heres the thing folks.

Im extremely interested in Apartheid era medals and decorations. I find it really frustrating trying to get info and pics from the internet.

    Anybody else have that problem?

I was wondering if anybody knew some sites or books that I could look into.

Im looking for books with full colour illustrations.

Anyway, here are some more pics, NOT from my collection, wich I got from a friend.

    Hi Stefan,

I will post some pics of SA medals in a few days. Meanwhile, you should check out this book. It is no doubt out of print, but since you're in the RSA you may be able to find it.

"South African Orders, Decorations, and Medals" (1986) by E.G.M Alexander, G.K.B. Barron, & A.J. Bateman. Published by Human & Rousseau (pty) ltd.

It is a great resource for Apartheid-era ODM.

    Matthijs.

p.s. Where in SA are you? I used to live in Pretoria...great place!

    Thanks for your reply Darrel.

    Anglo Boer War Medal

    Belonged to my Maternal Grandfather.

Also have his WWII service Medals - Africa Star, Italy Star, Africa Service Medal, WWII Service Medal.

Still trying to find out more about him because if he has the Anglo Boer Medal as well as WWII Medals, Im pretty sure he served in WWI too.

I have been able to find out that he was a mechanic and that he was also Field Marshal Jan Smuts's primary driver through WWII

Ok Folks, heres one of the reasons I started this post

Following will be a couple of hat / beret badges which i have no clue about.

    Any Ideas would be appreciated.

I picked these up in a lot at a fair. 57 pieces or so for about us$20.

The dealer was more into brass antiques and the like and not to concerned with militaria and had no idea what they were, truth to tell neither did I. The ones I recognised were fairly common, so I didnt think the price odd or anything.

This was about 12 years ago or so, and I got caught up in growing for a while.

Now that Im growed up (kinda) I started looking back at some of these and they have been very unhelpfull in telling me what the H*** they are.

    So here goes
