Yes, his ribbon bar is on UPSIDE DOWN

1/3) Rumanian Crusade Against Communism Medal
2) Medal for the Winter Battles 1941/42 aka East Medal or the sardonic "Frozen Meat Order"
3/1) War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords


This undated photo was probably taken in 1942. Note--upside down as they are-- the large and crisply stamped out Xs, which from about this point on in the war were replaced by the flimsy one-piece type with stubby too-short prongs at 12 and 6 o'clock on the swords where they cross.
