These are the POW ID tags. I would imagine that the ground dug tag was thrown away by the POW upon his release but, could it be WWI or II? Tony -

This one came with the pouch which I think the soldier would hang around his neck placing the tag inside. -
Hello, I thought I?d show you my German ID tags. I don't really know anything about them and have never seen or heard of a book on WWI German ID tags but I like them. The last lot are POW tags and I?m not sure but I think the beaten up one could be WWII. Does anyone know how I could clean the ground dug tag up as there is still some writing on it which can almost be seen? Tony

Wow! How did you find that out? Do you know where he came from? We have a Dave Bloor on the forum. Did he survive the war? Tony

Hello, I have an ID bracelet belonging to 73766 Major Bloor. Do any of you know how I can find out if he was in WWII or if he served after 1945? Please bear in mind that I'm not in the UK so a trip to the PRO won't be easy. Thanks Tony

WW1 MEDALS TO SOUTH AFRICANS
Tony replied to a topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
I've seen a few S. African WWI medals on ebay.de this year. I've even seen the same one being sold more than once. Do you think that is strange or am I just being a little paranoid? Tony -
Is this a Lancaster?
Tony replied to Tony's topic in Great Britain: Research, Documentation & History
I still think it's a Wellington. Tony -

Hello, I've asked this question elsewhere but, if anyone here has more info than I have accumulated (which isn't much), I'd be pleased to hear from you. Are these common? Were variations made throughout the war? I know there was a manufacturer called Fieldings, this example just has Made in England on the bottom. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Thanks Tony

Hello, Does anyone have the Afghan War medal roll? If so, could you do me a favour please and check if F J Feesey is on there. I own a WWI tunic with his service number in it you see and the attached ribbon bar has the ribbons to the Afghan medal, BWM and Victory medal so, it'd be great to check if he really was there. Thanks Tony

No, I'm afraid that's the only photo I have. It does look like the Wellington though doesn't it. Thanks for finding that out. Tony -

Here?s a bog standard bronze cross in a paper packet, this one was given to great aunt Karoline who died in 1941 I was told. The reverse of the packet might be interesting to some (and boring to others) as they made a printing error in the address, blacked it out and reprinted it. I know there has been a lot of discussion about a spelling mistake on the Westwall award packets so I thought I?d show this. The mistake in the blacked out bit is Nahe whereas the correction reads Nahr, these words are hard to differentiate (says me) when spoken in German. Tony

If you ever fancy doing a straight swap for one of those EKIs Gordon, just give me a shout. Tony

Hello, Those that do not wish to join the Bundeswehr have to do civilian service which amounts to looking after disabled people, working in hospitals, helping the aged etc. I think if conscription was stopped, those who until now have done their civilian service (which is as far as I know, longer than the 5 minutes spent in the Bundeswehr) would also want it made voluntary. This would cost the German tax payer far too much money and so probably won?t happen in the near future. I think German conscripts serve less than a year now (about 9 months) so, if you subtract their leave (6 weeks?), training and one exercise they are only in the barracks for a few weeks before returning to civilian life.
