    1. Another days work in France, June -August near Caen.
    2. My Grandad was a Trooper in the 141st Regt. RAC. and arrived in Normandy on 19th June, which must have been tons safer than it was for those who arrived 13 days earlier. Some time in October he wandered across the wrong side of the line (don't know where) in his fuel tanker and was shot at by some Germans. After doing a runner, he was soon surrounded by the Americans and taken prisoner, which must have given the German POWs a good laugh. After 24 hours of pleading not guilty in a strong London accent, he was given to some Canadian troops who took him to their MO. He spent the rest of his war in hospital, being discharged from service in March 1945. I wonder if my Grandad met my wife?s uncle Albert.
    3. Meanwhile, across the Channel, Uncle Albert, who was soon to be captured, was enjoying a day at the beach with his mates.
    4. All I have is a book which my Grandad bought in 1954 and some photos of Uncle Albert who was stationed near St. Lo. Preparing for the invasion:
    5. Jens, I'd be interested in the threaded assembly if you know where to get them. Tony
    6. Sure does doesn't it. Wonder if he knew how popular that tache would be in 15 years time (photo was taken in March 1918).
    7. Chip, they were in a quiet area in Elsa? in Feb 1918 where they stayed for a couple of months. As far as I know, the Uffz. was already in the MG section, so maybe he was giving the instruction. They're from RIR94. By the way, look how clean their boots are. tony
    8. I think I have a few MG photos, I'll have to dig them out. Here's one for starters. Tony
    9. Looks like you are right. Have a look near the bottom of page 11 in this link http://www.bayerischewaffen.de/daten/trstemp.pdf
    10. Hello, I?ve been looking online trying to find the whereabouts of the 1st Bavarian AK, 2 Div.,15th Bavarian Inf. Regiment, 10th Company, No. 2 platoon in about the middle of September 1915, but can?t find anything. I believe they were on the Somme and would like to know if they were facing the French or newly arrived British. The soldier in question was killed by a trench mortar after the 4th Sept. (last letter home) and before 17th September. Can any of you help me out here? Tony
    11. Dan, I've seen just the opposite, plenty of sticks (well a few each year), but have only once seen complete screw cap assemblies. They were being sold by a Belgian in England and I only bought 1 . Tony
    12. Thanks Dan, I think I'll give up looking for a stick/can that fits the thread. Tony
    13. His cap badge looks like it could be RA so I'd have a guess at it being a gun. Do you have his medals or medal index card? I could be wrong though. It would also fit in with his riding instructor's badge. Tony
    14. Martin, What's the badge between the swords and stripes? Tony
    15. Hello, I have the three tin cans pictured below and each one is different. 1. No. 3 has four rivets in the base, the others do not 2. The base of No. 1 is totally different in appearance to that of Nos. 2 and 3 3. The inner diameter of the screw thread for No. 1 is 39.8 mm, No. 2 is 36.6 mm (rusty) and 3 is 38.6 mm 4. the stick stamped M.O.A. is slightly different in appearance than the one stamped HNB but both have a thread diameter of 37.7 mm (give or take a bit). 5. All three have different length hooks 6. The lid on No. 2 is different to those on Nos. 1 and 3 Are there any explanations to this? We all know how Germans love making rules and regulations (no offence meant to any German Beamte reading this). Modifications? Different makers? Different years of manufacture? Is this too technical and something I shouldn?t really worry about? Tony
