    1. Hello Anton, I don't know anything about the pack, but the LMG (modified Bren) comes with a big heavy metal box which takes something like 12 magazines and is lugged from A to B by the number 2. Or at least that's what we had to do. Is the LMG still in service? Tony
    2. I think Chris sold his one, it might be worth waiting till he has the chance to go online, that's if he can remember what it went for. I'd be willing to pay a bit more than ?17 and I'm known by some in the collecting world as being tight. Tony
    3. Thanks Graham, looks like the mystery is solved. Tony
    4. Here you go Roel http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=3245...0agent&st=0 The MIC is in post 30 something. Tony
    5. Not so long ago (half a year, a year maybe), Chris Boonzaier posted a pic of the MIC to a Belgian agent. As far as I can remember it only gave her name and the medals. I'll try doing a search to find it. Tony
    6. ------ Sorry, thought I had found some info on him and posted in too much of a hurry. Must remember E. Kent isn't E. Surrey
    7. 16 of them on cwgc, he wasn't one of them so must have been invalided out. It would be great to find out if that actually is his SWB. The Royal Sussex also had the G prefix. so not just for the home counties.
    8. Thanks for giving it a go Gilbert. I don't know what he did for a living, well not yet I don't. I was just hoping he may worked for the council but now that I know his service record survived the bombings, I will probably get to know him quite well. Tony
    9. Alex, Is it a swan WS? If so, I believe that could be Wagner und Sohn, Berlin so I've been told. Tony
    10. Rifle Brigade, the Andaman Islands shortly after disembarkation. Just heard from home - they landed at Port Blair. Not quite the headgear you're after, but taken pre 1900, 24th Btln. The Queen's.
    11. Here we have my great great uncle Bill of the 24th Queen's or 22nd Bermondsey Territorials, The Queen's (he served in both). If he's wearing a QSA, it's not quite Victorian. Tony
    12. Great photos, please keep them coming. Stuart, I can add a picture but only without boats, do you mind? Tony
    13. Thanks everyone. It's a great photo and I'm glad it's mine Tony
    14. Andy, See if this link helps to work out the numbers http://www.schriften-lernen.de/Schrift/Arab/Waehrg1.htm We might get nearer to telling exactly which kind of fuze it actually is. Tony
    15. Andy, just noticed you also asked when. It says 1898/09 in the French notes. Tony
    16. Made for the Turks as SPM mentions? Is it this Krupp made S 22? I thought brass was rare on German ammunition, I've seen aluminium mainly. Tony
    17. Gilbert, Can you look up a name for me please; he's Frederick Percy Spencer of the 16th Public Schools Battalion, Middlesex Regt. He may have been living in New Cross or Camberwell at the time. I've checked the London Roll of Honour and couldn't find him there so here's hoping he worked for the council. Cheers Tony
    18. Hello Alex, The bar was only for those who were in reach of enemy fire between August and November. Private, later Sergeant Peacock, was an 'old army' tradesman (SS prefix) and may have spent the first months of his war repairing things way behind the line. Therefore, no entitlement to clasp/bar or roses. The Aug. Star is pictured twice in the book, but as you say, it may just be a printing thing. Tony
    19. I thought I'd add these 4 slightly different Stars: The top one is a 14-15 Star and is technically off topic but they all deserve a mention - M2-033102 Pte. A Williams ASC The one on the left is the standard 1914 Star without bar - SS-1220 Pte TE Peacock ASC (he wasn?t entitled) On the right is the 14 Star with bar - 7468 Ptr. H Murrell 2/Royal Sussex Regt. And the one in the book shows a 1914 Star without ?NOV? in the bottom scroll. As the book was published in 1918 and the Star was approved in 1917, I?m wondering why Taprell Dorling didn?t have it altered (a printing time issue?). The book does state the Star was issued for service in Belgium or France between the dates of 5.8.14 and midnight 22-23.11.14; no bars issued. I believe the bar was approved in 1919 or 1920. Tony
    20. It would be nice to find out that he spent some time attached to the ASC while up in the Midlands on holiday from the Cape Coloured Labour Bn.
    21. Leigh, I must have somehow missed your post all those months ago, here are the details I have: 1106 A R Bailey; not a lot to go on is there. I only have his ID disc which doesn?t give his rank but shows his unit as mentioned above - NMDT ASC. I couldn?t find him on Soldiers Died or the CWGC site either so, presumably he survived. Cheers Tony
    22. Me too, I bought the cheaper ones like Belgium, France, US, Czech, Italy, Greece etc. and spotted a very expensive one from Siam once, but the prices of the more exotic VMs as well as the fakes put me off continuing. Tony
    23. The second World War lion doesn't look as friendly as the Great War lion. I only noticed a difference in the lions last year. Tony (sometimes quite blind)
