Indeed you have some nice pieces there. The wing does look to have suffered some trauma.
Thanks for posting them.

Thank you for your thoughts Gentlemen.
I must confess that a different grade hadn't crossed my mind, I was thinking maybe an earlier design.... We will probably never know

Here's a side by side comparisson of the two styles.

I found this variant recently........
Notice the lack of rays or starburst coming from the centre.
As before I have changed the contrast slightly to show the details, but the red is a deep colour on the actual badge.

R.d.G. Is it possible that this is a copy?
Difficult to say for sure, but mine is maker marked Lehmann & Wundenberg, Hannover.....
Excuse the glare on the reverse from the scanner.

Excellent work! You can really see the difference between the manufacturers.
Here is a picture of a badge "in wear" that I think you may like to see.

Hi Don! I have recently purchased the small version on the LHS for myself, although it does not have the same pin, just a straight pin with no knurling(?) marks on it, and it has no makers mark on the top reverse, but does have GES. GESCH on the bottom. How exactly would I describe this pin for my records please? And what does Ges. Gesch indicate? Thanks mate!
Hi Troy,
Could you post an image of the pin please?

Hi Gefreiter Otto,
It would be good if you could post pictures of the other makers that you have. Then we could compare any small differences in the design from the different makers...
Thanks

Very rarely these ones appear. If they are genuine, then they must be early pre RZM pieces as they are never marked.

Hi Sergey,
I am sorry to say that I cannot help you as this organisation is not one that I collect.
I have attached a couple of the pictures in case the link breaks.
Try contacting "hunmilitaria" who posted this thread on WAF http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=463160&highlight=hungarian
I hope that someone else may be able to help.

Thanks for the link Don, it explained quite a bit, not bad for £70 then.
Pete
I had suspected that you had picked it up at a bargain (compared to what the dealers ask), which is why I posted the link. I didn't think that you'd believe me if I told you it's value
Very nice find, let me know if you spot another at that price, I've been after one for years

Hi Sergey,
I have seen the badges in museums in Germany & Austia. Unfortunately I did not take photos of them, however here is a similar badge that was offered for sale some time ago which was listed as war time. As you can see it is similar but not exactly the same. I will see if I can find anymore pictures.
Also there is a period poster which shows the badge, but again not exactly the same.

That is indeed a shame, another reason why I stay away from pole tops & such, I don't know anything about them. But now that you mention it, the Swaz on all the NSBO pins etc I've seen are always static & not mobile, I'd never noticed it before.

The badge certainly existed without the Swastika & the are many pictures of it in wear, however none of them so far have ever shown the version with the Swastika.
Also from what I understand, the Red Cross Organisation would never allow the Swastika to be placed directly on the red cross symbol. If you check the various DRK badges, the Swaz is alway on the eagle, never the red cross. The Red Cross Organisation had a fair amount of influence over Hitler, as I seem to recal that the reason that the Social Welfare award was introduced was because the Red Cross were upset that Hilter was awarding the DRK awards to so many people it felt should not have received it.
These badges with the Swaz (shown above) are believed to have been made by Floch in Austria in the 1970's.

Very interesting Sergey, I have never seen this badge with another maker.
I hope you do not mind, I have moved the other badge to a new thread here: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=46485
Thank you for posting it.
