JR Cone - One People, One Reich, Enameled Organizational Badges of Germany 1918 - 1945

A catalogue rather than a reference book "Heering - H?sken, Katalog der Abzeichen deutscher Organisationen 1871-1945" covers virtually all enamel & organisational badges. As with any work, there are disputed items in it & others missing, only obverse images are shown, no reverses.

A forgotten work is "Br?ggemann - Rowedder, Deutschland im Spiegel seiner Abzeichen 1930 - 45". Similar to H?sken but only 53 pages (H?sken is over 400) & printed in 1977.

The archer was used as the symbol of the RLB in the early days. Many of their membership cards etc show the archer on them, I think it signifies the archer as a defender of the people sort of thing, shooting at the airchraft with his arrows.

Thanks Joe. The scan really doesn't do the piece justice, with the darkend recesses & burnished highlights the badge really stands out in natural light.

Ahhh the good ol' M9..... As you may already know, this is a controversial item disputed amongst collectors, you either like them or you don't.

In case you aren't aware of the reasons & for any other who are interested, there are two. The "M9" prefix was reserved solely for "Tages- und Festabzeichen" - Day and Meeting badges, known as "Tinnies". The DVG badge is a membership or sympathizer badge, not for a specific day or celebration, so that would indicate that it should not have an RZM mark or code number on it.

However there are also examples of late war standard NSDAP Party badges which also have this M9/312 mark. This could suggest that the maker was just confused over what markings to use.

So we'll keep it here as an example until more evidence turns up.

I'm afraid this looks very much to me like one of the many fantasy items coming out of Poland in the last couple of years. The screw pole is very indicative of such items.

Reverse is double marked with the Overhoff symbol & full name. The markings are shaper on the actual badge, they blurred out a little due to the depth of field limitations of my scanner.

I finally gave in to my desires & bought my first cap badge. Here it is, DRK.

Indeed it does Joe. The Hitlerbewegung is a prime example of a badge that should be there, as well as many other Austrian badges
