    1. Hi Stephen, welcome.

Some nice pins there, I agree that we have to treat that article with caution, I'd like to see more research done to answer some of those questions once & for all. I worry that too many original items may be being trashed just because we are sometimes over cautious with them.

      Robert,

I noticed the mis-spelling of the name as well. I don't know if it is a good badge or not, I do like it. In hand it is a little beauty, but time will tell I suppose. it is indeed a blob of red enamel on the reverse.

      Cheers

    2. No type III here I'm afraid, haven't found one I'm happy with yet, although I'm hoping to receive a collection of enamels in a week or so, so here's hoping that there may be one in there.

In the meantime, back to the Type I. H?sken lists the ones at the top of this thread as Type I, 2nd form, so I suppose we could call it Type Ib. Below is what he calls Type I 1st form, so for ease of use, Type Ia. It's also shown as a drawing in the infamous article us Frauenschaft collectors know so well. (as another confusing point, both that article & H?sken show the Type Ib to have a beaded background to the red, not elongated flecks that we see here  )

It doesn't appear as well made as the Type Ib & I'm not sure quite what to think of it, but I'll show it here anyway. I'm still looking for the Type Ic version (H?sken Type I 3rd form).

      Cheers

    3. I'm sorry that no one replied. I didn't as non portable awards & desk medals are not an area that I have any knowledge in.

Political & Social awards like this are a specialised collecting area so it can take a while to find others with an interest in the same area.

I would ask you to reconsider leaving & give us a little more time. I am trying to attract more collectors of this field but it takes time to build a reputation & to attract members.

      Cheers

    4. Robert,

Thanks for posting your badge, it looks like one of the smaller lapel size ones, is it?

About half of mine are unmarked the rest are C. Poellath, except for the small shield shaped ones in the group above which are Klammer. I was told along time ago to avoid any marked 'A.G. & Co. M?nchen' as a large number of these appeared with one particular German dealer in the 1970's. It not clear if they were unfinished period ones out of the woodwork or fakes, but the gold is never quite right on them & most are a bronze colour.

I have about 25 different ones of these in various sizes & grade (Gold, Silver & Bronze) now. The finish doesn't last very well on them & sometimes the only way to see what grade they are is to look at the pin plate. They weren't made to last just for the competition really, which is strange considering the quality of the enamelling as you pointed out.

Yes, the pins are quite pronounced on them, quite often they are pushed flat against the badge, I guess because they bashed so earily.

Here's a nice silver I have, the image doesn't do it justice, it's stunning in hand.

      Cheers

    5. Here you go, sorry about the poor quality, had trouble getting the light, been very dull here the last couple of days.

From what I understand, these cases came with the 3yr Master Shooter badge (the enamelled one seen in an earlier picture) with spaces for the 3 other year badges (1941, '42 & '43). However as this guy also won the 4yr clasp I keep the 4 seperate badges ('41-'44 with clasp) in it & keep the 3yr seperately.

      Cheers
