Very interesting Marcus.
I too would not usually clean a badge or award, but I have an Honour Ring which was in a very tarnished condition when I got it. I thought for ages before deciding to give it a clean & I am very pleased with the results. I did however use a silver cleaner......

Been a little quiet here so I thought I'd dig out a badge to show.
This is the 1st pattern Frauenschaft badge, believed to only have been in use for less than a year, 1933 - 1934.

That's in a nice condition John, these things are usually quite scruffy.

Quite a number. Another of the areas that I'm interested is period pictures showing rare or unusual badges & awards in wear.
I'll dig some out & post them in any threads that they are relevant to, I'll also see if I have anymore of this one that are worth posting (I have several, but many are not sharp enough, or are too small etc, the one above is my favourite of this badge).

Not really what you are asking for. I have many pictures of this badge being worn, I thought you would like to see one.

Very nice. I've yet to find one, but I've been holding out for a cased one.....

Yes it's quite depressing isn't it, that something that is very inexpensive & quite numerous (compared to some items) is so readily faked.

I'm not a collector of them per se, but I pick them up when I see a nice one.
Here is a rare one, be careful if you see one on sale, it appears to have been recently faked. This design was only very occasionly seen on the market until about 15 months ago, now they are cropping up on a monthly basis. There are major differences though, note that on a genuine one the bottom left of the right rune runs into/behind the skull......

Thanks for posting the Volunteer's or Samariterinnen badge & the DRK medal John. I won't get into the medal for Jim here as it will get too complicated.....
This badge was for private citizens & indeviduals who were not members of the DRK gave time & assistance to patients & anyone who required help. They had to have put in a minimum of 100 hours before this badge was issued......
