Please find attached some notes I've made on this medal in the past
1 -
No one
I purchased this piece 5 years ago and was advised by the seller that it was “inscribed for a Staff Member of the Hanlin Academy and Court Chamberlain”.
I am not able to decipher the seal characters (篆書 - zhuànshū) and confirm the stated awardee.
I notice that you have posted a lot of information showing seal characters and wonder if you could let me know if there is software to print these characters and maybe to translate Chinese hanzi to zhuànshū.
Thank you for your help and all your interesting contributions to GMIC

now for the proficiency badges not described in Peterson's book
Shooting Badges will follow.

Part 2.
Proficiency Badges not included in Peterson to follow.

Army Proficiency Badges are many and varied, and there doesn't seem to be a definitive catalogue of them.
So I've started my attempts using Peterson's examples, and I'm attaching a pdf document which includes the material I've found. A lot more to come!!
Note that I have not included Sharpshooter badges - they'll need a separate sheet.

The badges shown in the attached are not part of the 9 standard 1st 2nd and 3rd class Technical Merit, Long Service, Good Conduct Badges but these are issued by Navy Arsenals

Thank you Nick, I have hundreds of documents but that's all for arsenals.
I do not have the lovely 30 year Kure badge or the 10 year one without enamel but I do have the 5 year badge that I'll post soon with a few other associated items.

Here's a pdf document which contains photographs and translations of all the Arsenal documents I own. Please note that because I have no knowledge of the Japanese/Chinese languages my translations are not complete. Help would be appreciated.
Also, I can extract text from the pdf if anyone would like the material.
I do have a few Arsenal badges which are not honorary badges. I'll post these later.

I have several Arsenal documents, and have done my best to translate these, bearing in mind I have no knowledge of the Japanese language! Constructive comments welcome.

銀燻 silver smoked
梨地 (Nashiji – pear-skin pattern) is a technical term denoting a gold or silver lacquering technique.
燻 means 'smoked' so the four-kanji compound means 'applied by the Nashiji technique in a silver, smoked pattern.'
1st kanji shows colour, 2nd shows pattern, last two show technique.

Thanks for posting this badge, I haven't seen a photograph of it before. Here's a composite of 3 badges from the same organisation. Also, 4 separate shots of a 6th Class badge. If possible, could you post some "square on" pictures of your badge - front, rear, in case and case lid? That would be good.

This Medal has been a mystery - to Peterson and to myself. Has anyone any information, and/or able to translate the script on the front and reverse (see pictures)?
